Judah was likely in deep despair. At least those who had survived and remained in Judah were likely in despair. Their country and temple had been destroyed by the Babylonians and they continued to face incursions by the Edomites. The Edomites were descendants of Esau and relatives to the Israelites. In their darkest hour the Edomites compounded their misery by continuing their affliction. Yet, in this darkness hope could be found in God's judgment against Edom. We, too, find calamity and crisis wreak havoc on our lives. But, hope can be found in God.
